Thirty Seconds To Mars is a band I've always known about, but never thought I'd actively listen to their music or see them live. I've always been a fan of Jared Leto as an actor but never gravitated towards his and his brothers music. But when they announced their tour several months back, I had no choice but to get my mom (who is a huge fan) tickets for Christmas. After several months of anticipation, the day finally came on August 12 where they took the on Budweiser Stage in Toronto.

Jared Leto is known for is crazy theatrics and I assumed the same for his brother Shannon who makes up the other half of Thirty Seconds To Mars. Their newest album It's The End Of The World But It's A Beautiful Day had more of a pop sound than their past work so I was curious how these stylistic factors would play into the show. But from the second they stepped on the stage I was truly in awe of their stage presence. They we're able to utilize lighting, smoke machines, and just about any other stage effect you can imagine. I'm not usually a fan of the more theatrical shows, but this one had me astounded. I spend the entire hour and a half set on the toes awaiting the next extravagant move they'll make next.
There are three things that I look for to make a good show, crowd engagement, stage production, and an aspect of uniqueness vocally that sets the live song apart form the recording. Thirty Seconds To Mars was able to not only check all these boxes, but they did so perfectly! The way they interact with the audience was unlike anything I've ever seen. They communicated well with everyone and even brought several fans on stage for some songs. And as I mentioned previously, they utilized a variety of different stage production tools and techniques to put on a beautifully elaborate show.
With all that being said, Thirty Seconds To Mars is a concert that I was very pleasantly surprised by. Their show is amazing even if they don't stylistically align with your music preferences. I'd definitely recommend checking them out on tour if you have the chance!
